Research Student
When you are going to take the examination of the graduate course, you must contact the university office by yourself.
However, if you need to be a research student of this laboratory before taking the examination, contact the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory with the following documents. You must send the required documents according to which course you choose. The courses are Ph.D. course for 5 years (including a 2 year Master's course) and a Ph.D. course for 3 years .
Ph.D. for 5 years (including 2 year Master course)
The 5 years Ph.D. course consists of a 2 years Master's course and 3 years Ph.D. course. If you have excellent experiences in our research areas, the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory may consider partially supporting your living costs in Japan.
However, this will not completely cover your living costs. You basically need to prepare the funds necessary for your stay by yourself. Refer to the financial information below.
In any case, please send the following documents to the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory.
C.V. (curriculum vitae) name, address, education qualification, research and working experiences, list of publication.
Reasons why you have selected our laboratory.
Research proposal.
School record (undergraduate).
Please provide your cumulative Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale (A = 4 points, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1). Our requirement is 3.0 or higher.
Certificate of your bachelor's degree.
Recommendation letter from your supervisor.
Scores of GRE, if available. This is strongly recommended. You must take both the General tests and the Advanced Subject test in computer science, physics, or psychology. Applicants with socres below the 90th percentile on the Quantitative and Analytical sections of the GRE are rarely admitted.
Scores of English language tests (TOEFL, TOEIC, etc.), if you are not a native speaker. We have a minimun score requirement of 550 on the TOEFL or the equal level on the TOEIC. If you do not take these tests, you will need to show your skill in some way.
Score of Japanese Language Proficiency Test, level one.

Information on your school and university (any information that might indicate the level in your country)
You are required to obtain an MESSC (Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture)scholarship for financial support. You have to apply for it by yourself. Otherwise you have to prove your financial support. You also have to take the entrance examinations for graduate course of the department.
Your Ph.D. research will be in an area related to intelligent robotics, pattern recognition, or sensor networks. Refer to our current projects when considering your research proposal.
Ph.D. course for 3 years
If you have excellent experiences in our research areas, the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory consider providing you financial support for your stay in Japan.
If you do not have enough experience, you will need to survive by yourself. It is strongly recommended to obtain a doctoral fellowship for financial support. The best way in Japan is to send an application to JSPS. Refer to the financial information below.
